I just spent the better part of the day cleaning out my office and organizing. Spring cleaning starts early this year, for once. Since my little white furball was barking at everything in sight today *sigh*, she spent a lot of time in the office with me, in time out under the desk. I finally managed to get to the bottoms of the numerous paper and misc junk piles that have accumulated and was sitting at my computer chilling out for the first time in hours.

Finley was still in the room but she was sitting/standing at the window looking out. Apparently the view from the corner chair isn’t good enough. You can’t see out the whole window that way. So she climbs up window sill, much like she does on a regular basis in the living room. This, however, was not a good vantage point – probably due to lack of comfort. She’s wider than the window sill. I recently added a table to my office so I can do some crafts and art. It’s right by the window and the big surface must have looked like the perfect perch and she climbed up onto it and it now sitting by the window looking out.

I felt sorry she had to sit (or lie down) on the hard surface so I put the blanket from the chair on the table for her. Yes I’m aware I’m spoiling her but I don’t care. The only problem with her being on the table, is I don’t think she can get down on her own. There’s not enough room for her to jump down, not to mention the table is too high for her to do that safely. I know it wouldn’t stop her.

And now the piano behind has got her interest. Hmm, I wonder if she’s going to climb that too. We shall see.

attempt 1 to climb the bookcase
The other day Finley did something that is so characteristically cat-like. Now I’m used to my friends cats climbing all over furniture and perching themselves on top of bookcases, cabinets or fridges. I have yet to see a dog do that. Miss Fin gets into everything, so sometimes I keep food on the upper two shelves of my bookcase.  I was having a lazy day, so I was hanging out on the couch playing Wii with Finley keeping me company. She got a little bored and started sniffing everything - she LOVES doing that btw. She got extremely intrigued by the food on the upper shelves and did her best to get at it.

After analyzing the situation from the ground, she got up on her back legs and tried jump/climbing the side of the bookcase. When this didn’t work, she got on the couch, which is right beside the bookcase, and tried the same thing. All she managed to do was fall off the couch into the bowl of water I keep for her in the basement. Her expression was quite funny when that happened and she looked stunned for a few seconds because she got wet. Apparently, those methods weren’t going to work, so she spent some time sitting on the couch, looking up at the food. As if willing it to float down off the shelf to within her reach.

attempt 2 with successful results
She must have seen that the shelves looked like stairs so, naturally, she though that climbing them would be the answer. She got on the second shelf up from the floor. At this point, I had stopped playing Wii and was watching her with mild curiosity, this seemed rather unusual behaviour for a dog. Fin then realized I was looking at her and instead of trying to climb the shelves, she lied down on the one she was on, pretending this had been her goal all along.

I guess it must not have been that comfortable, cause she didn’t stay there for too long - apparently cats are much better at this lying around on shelves full of stuff than dogs are. Fin looked a little confused at what she was doing and only lasted a couple of minutes before deciding that the books were taking up too much room and getting off.
